Julie K. Silver, MD, a nationally recognized doctor in physical medicine and rehabilitation, is medical director of Spaulding-Framingham Rehabilitation Center in Massachusetts, where she founded and directs RESTORE, an innovative, multidisciplinary oncology rehabilitation program for cancer patients and survivors. RESTORE is one of the only physical rehab programs in the country for cancer survivors that uses a comprehensive team approach in which caregivers from different specialties work together to help patients regain their strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve their daily function and quality of life. Affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Spaulding Rehabilitation hospital, RESTORE is quickly becoming a national model for other centers wishing to offer continued care to cancer patients.

 

Silver is an associate professor at Harvard Medical School, and on the medical staff of Massachusetts General and Brigham & Women's hospitals in Boston. She is an award-winning author and has published more than a dozen books about recovery from serious illnesses and injuries, including After Cancer Treatment: Heal Faster, Better, Stronger. Her book, Essentials of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, is deemed a uniquely authoritative textbook in her field. Silver has been honored for “excellence in health care communication” by the American Medical Writers Association for her book, Post-Polio Syndrome: A Guide for Polio Survivors and their Families.

 

Silver is a graduate of the University of California at Davis, and Georgetown University School of Medicine. She conducted her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C.
